Michael C Flickinger received his graduate training in microbial and pharmaceutical biochemistry from the University of Wisconsin (Madison, WI, USA) and post-doctoral training in the School of Chemical Engineering at Purdue University (West Lafayette, IN, USA). He was a Director at the National Cancer Institute Fermentation Facility (Frederick, MD, USA), founding Director of the University of Minnesota Biotechnology Institute (St. Paul, MN, USA), and etc. He has over 170 research publications/book chapters, 150 poster presentations, 20 issued patents; his publication H-index is 27. He is the editor of the Encyclopedia of Bioprocess Technology (5 volumes), the Encyclopedia of Industrial Biotechnology (7 volumes), Upstream, Downstream Industrial Biotechnology (3 volumes), and Process Architecture in Biomanufacturing Facility Design. He has trained 45 graduate students, 64 post docs and visiting scientists, and 48 biochemistry, microbiology, materials, and chemical engineering undergraduates in his cross disciplinary biomaterials and bioprocessing laboratory since 1985.
